Race review
Post on Monday, July, 13th, 2009 at 12:41pm by Diane

It’s been a while since I wrote to the blog but I have been so busy with other things not to mentions trying to spend time with my granddaughter who is now 5 months old and into everything.

Overall we feel the half marathon relay event was a success. We know there were a few problems along the way which caused some confusion for the runners, like the lack of marshals in some points but these have all been addressed for next time.

Another issue that came up was the results, unfortunately this year we were unable to afford a timing clock & timing chips but we are looking to have one for next year if we can get the funding for them so if anyone out there has and spare money lying around, please feel free to donate or sponsor the event.

Unfortunately on race day the food vendor we had hired let us down at the last minute and we were without refreshments for people in the park. Lucky for us we had a large supply of bananas and water. W were all at the park from 6am and were looking forward to a cuppa before the race started.

Luckily we now have a company that can organize all the park entertainment including refreshments which will save us a lot of time and energy.

We will be hosting another event on the 23rd May 2010 and we will be in touch once pre registration opens.

Week 1 - ZERO TO 5 K RUNNING PLAN
Post on Monday, March, 30th, 2009 at 9:34am by Diane

ZERO TO 5 K RUNNING PLAN

Each Sunday Fitness Booty Camp will take you through your running schedule for the week.  If you are unable to come to the FREE training session on a Sunday please contact Fitness booty Camp for any advice and tips.

Week One - Brisk five-minute warm up walk, stretch.

Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a  total of 20 minutes, stretch.

Repeat twice in the following week.

Tip - run intelligently; run/walk half the session away from your house and then run/walk back towards your house.  It’ll save you a long walk back.

Feb update
Post on Monday, February, 16th, 2009 at 9:15am by Diane

It’s been a while since we blogged but things have been so hectic with preparation for the run as well as trying to keep our own lives in check,

For me this was an exciting month as I became a gran to Kay who was born on the 27th Jan so between kisses and cuddles I don’t know when I’ll get time to train.

I have decided to enter as part of a relay team with some colleagues from XCalibre.  I hope they are all fit as I may have to rely on them carrying me over the finish line, and that’s with me only doing 3 miles!

Hats off to all you runners who are going for the full half marathon.

Exciting news, Fitness Booty Camp has offered to provide free training sessions at Meadow Park in the weeks leading up to the run.  This will give runners a change to meet and greet and hopefully provide the opportunity for people to arrange their own training sessions as we have had a few requests from runners wanting us to put them in touch with other runners in the area but unfortunately data protection doesn’t allow us to do this.

Members of WLR will also be there to provide any information that you may need.  Our photos are on the web site so you will know who we are.

We are still looking for volunteers to help on the day so if you can help please get in touch.

Running the relay
Post on Wednesday, January, 21st, 2009 at 6:52pm by Diane

Registration opened this week and already places are filling up.  It looks like this first year is going to be fantastic year.

We still need a lot of helpers for on the day for road marshals, water stations etc so if your planning on running perhaps your supporters could help us out?

I've decided to run the relay this year with 3 co workers from XCalibre so training has started and it's killing me.  At least the other 3 people are runners so I can get tips from them.

Who ever invented spin classes must have been sadistic and barbaric!

I've joined LA Fitness so if you see me around and want any info feel free to chat, but please wait until I've got my breath back first.

If any of you are LA fitness members and want to get together at the gym to train let me know

The first WLR newsletter is almost ready to be sent out to you all so if your thinking of pre registering please do so over the next few days so you can get your copy.

I have put this together just to let you see what we have been doing and how we are progressing.

There will be a big media drive starting in January so watch out for details there. In the meantime i'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year, remember you can have fun and will still be ready for Sunday 24th May 2009 using the training schedules provided for you.

Best Wishes

Lindsay xx
